The Zero S

The high performance electric motorcycle fit for the road and Jay Leno’s Garage

If you’re looking for a cost-efficient, eco-friendly vehicle that does the duty of a motorcycle, this baby is the one for you. The new Zero S electric motorcycle is street legal and presents rapid, smooth acceleration, instant torque from a standstill yet weighs only 225 lbs. Zero keeps its weight low with its Z-force power pack and aircraft grade alloy frame weighing in at only 29 lbs.

Top speed of this bike is 60-65 mph and it can get there silently in less than four seconds. Speed of 70-75 mph possible with the optional 47-tooth rear sprocket. If you try to take it past its speed, you’ll minimize the 62.5 ft-lbs of torque.

Battery range is 60 miles so prepare for a maximum 30 mile commute or plan a place to charge up. Unlike the Zero X, the S doesn't offer a swappable battery because the pack weighs 80 pounds, twice as much as the pack in the X.

Of course the big draw to this cycle is the cost. Typical cost to recharge is less than $.01 per mile. The test drive from California to New York cost only $30 of electricity. Plus buyers get 10% tax credit on their federal tax return and California residents get to subtract the sales tax of 10% and take advantage of California Air Resources’s clean air rebate which totals about a $3500 reduction in the total price.

Other features of the Zero S electric motorcycle include:
• Clutchless, one speed transmission
• Battery recharge time less than 4 hours
• 31 horsepower
• Virtually no sound on the road

The Zero S was featured recently on Jay Leno’s Garage. Jay gets a charge out of this American-made bike. Check out the video on Jay Leno’s Garage >>
