The Spyder: Motorcycle, Car or Powersports Vehicle?
Bombardier Recreational Products recently introduced the Can-Am Spyder Motorcycle. But is it a motorcycle? I guess if you ask the DMV, we’re talking motorcycle. But if you talk to motorcycle riders, it’s quite a different ride. No matter what you call it, people have the bug about this Spyder.
Shaped like a trike with snowmobile character, this 3-wheeled vehicle is getting attention on the roadways. But it’s not just the looks that make this baby unique. With just under 1000cc’s containing 106 horsepower, the Spyder “Motorcycle” really flies – up to 110 mph.
So who is the Spyder for?
Quoting the slogan from Bombardier, the Spyder is for those who want “The thrill of a motorcycle, the peace-of-mind of a convertible.” With its stability system and ability to take the bumps, this is a quad that you can take on the road. It also offers a very comfortable seat with a more upright position than a motorcycle so it’s a gradual transition from a car or for those who can no longer do the 2 wheels. Most of all, these days, the Spyder Motorcycle is for those who want to turn heads. This is like no other vehicle out there. Check out a video of the Spyder Motorcycle at the International MC Show to see what we mean.
Still not sure if the Sypder Motorcycle is right for you?
The Spyder offers some great features. The biggest one is reverse gear. Back up, did you say reverse? Yes, like no other motorcycle, this one takes you back. And with its optional electric shift transmission, this is a toy to consider. Other features the Spyder gives you are front and rear brakes, power controlled clutch, ABS, traction control, extra storage, power steering and 30 plus mpg (better than a car anyway). But don’t put your foot down just yet (oh yeah, you don’t have to with the Spyder), this vehicle goes off of a single foot pedal.
The Spyder is selling for around $15,000 for manual transmission or $17,000 for electric. Want one shipped your way? Consider HaulBikes to protect this baby. You’ll get double the space and quality, but not pay double the money. We’re calling it a trike in our books, so we won’t charge you for two spaces, only an extra fee of $150 for the extra width.
